Our story
Who we build for, and what we build
DBD Builders Ltd works for private homeowners in Buckinghamshire who want more space, a better layout or a house built from the ground up — and who would rather deal with the person running the job than a sales office. Most of our customers are extending a family home they intend to stay in, so the priority is a build that stands up over decades rather than the cheapest figure on the day.
Extensions are the flagship. Alongside them we take on full new builds for private clients, loft and garage conversions, complete home renovations, roofing, groundworks and foundations, kitchen and bathroom fitting, driveways, patios and landscaping. Plumbing, gas and electrical work is carried out by the qualified electricians and Gas Safe plumbers Tom has worked alongside for over 15 years, so the whole scope stays under one contract instead of being split across strangers.
The experience behind it is 26 years deep. Tom went to college for joinery straight from school, worked in his father's building company, and picked up the surrounding trades on site rather than from a manual. That matters when a job is being priced: he can see what a wall, a roof or a floor structure will actually take before it is opened up.
The service area is Aylesbury, where the business is based, plus eleven Buckinghamshire towns including Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross and Amersham. Staying inside that radius is deliberate — it keeps the team on site and keeps Tom able to visit every job.

Mission and standards
How we decide what good looks like
Three commitments that shape every quotation we issue and every job we run.
Build it as if we live there
The standard is what the work looks like once it is covered up: correct foundations, correct structure, correct detailing. Tom trained as a joiner, and the finish is judged the same way — square, level and tight, not filled and painted over.
Price it once, honestly
A fixed price for the scope agreed at survey, so you know the figure before anything starts. Extra cost only arises where you add scope mid-build, and that is quoted separately before it happens.
Stay accountable after handover
There is no formal written guarantee document, and we will not pretend otherwise. What there is: if an issue with our workmanship appears after completion, Tom comes back and puts it right.
The owner
Tom Dobson, in his own words
“I'm a professional builder with a strong commitment to quality workmanship, reliability, and customer satisfaction. With experience across a wide range of building and construction projects, I take pride in delivering work that is built to last and completed to the highest standards. I've been building since I left school — I went to college to learn joinery, then worked with my dad in his building company, picking up other trades along the way. I've been doing this for 26 years.”
Extensions are the heart of the business, alongside full new-build projects for private clients. DBD delivers a complete building service that also spans roofing, landscaping, driveways, home renovations and more, with plumbing, gas and electrical work carried out by trusted subcontractors Tom has worked alongside for over 15 years.
For structural and design work, DBD collaborates with an architect and a structural engineer, managing building control at every stage through to final sign-off. Plans are not drawn in-house, and planning applications are normally handled by the customer through the architect on the job — that is made clear from the survey onwards.
Positioned at the higher end of the market and serving affluent areas including Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross and Amersham, the team is scaled between three and eight tradespeople depending on the size of the job and what stage it has reached.

How we stand behind the work
Cover, commitments and how we price
Only what we can evidence — no badges we don't hold, no guarantees we haven't written down.
Fully insured
£2,000,000 public liability cover and £10,000,000 employers' liability cover.
Fixed pricing
Fixed price as standard. Extra work is only charged where the customer adds scope mid-job, and it's quoted separately.
We come back
There's no formal written guarantee. What there is: if an issue comes up after completion, Tom returns and puts it right.
Qualified trades
Gas Safe plumbers and qualified electricians are brought in wherever the job requires them.
The proof
What we can put a number against
Every figure here comes from the business itself. Where we have no verified number — job counts, review scores — we leave it off rather than invent one.
